PJ Harvey releasing poetry book
By Aly Barchi | Published on Tuesday 2 December 2014
PJ Harvey is releasing a book of images and ‘rhyming verse’, titled ‘Hollow Of The Hand’, in collaboration with photographer Seamus Murphy, with whom she previously worked on a set of twelve short films, one for each track on 2011’s ‘Let England Shake’.
The 224 page book is based on time Harvey spent travelling the world following that LP’s release, stopping in the likes of Kosovo, Washington DC and Afghanistan. It’s coming to UK bookshops on 8 Oct 2015.
Harvey says: “Gathering information from secondary sources felt too far removed for what I was trying to write about. I wanted to smell the air, feel the soil and meet the people of the countries I was fascinated with. My friend Seamus Murphy and I agreed to grow a project together – I would collect words, he would collect pictures, following our instincts on where we should go”.
As a moving preview of the sort of thing that will be in the book, here’s the Murphy-directed short for the title song to ‘Let England Shake’:
