Peter Frampton to play North Carolina and Mississippi shows, but will not return

Peter Frampton has defended his decision to go ahead with shows in Mississippi and North Carolina, though has said he will not now return to either state until controversial new laws have been overturned. As previously reported, various artists, including Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam, have pulled shows at short notice in protest against new anti-LGBT laws in both states.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Frampton said: “Performing live has been one of the most important opportunities I’ve been given and I am lucky to share my music with so many of my amazing, loyal and diverse fans. In light of recent legislation in North Carolina and Mississippi, I stand aside my fellow musicians Gregg Allman, Cyndi Lauper, Jimmy Buffett and many others to help overturn these absurd new laws”.
“My band and I will uphold our commitment to play our scheduled shows there this summer and honour fans who have already purchased tickets and/or made travel plans”, he said of his decision to play the upcoming gigs. “However, we will not play again until these laws are changed. I will be making a donation in support of the rights and protections of the LGBTQ community”.
