PETA turns The Smiths’ Meat Is Murder into 8-bit videogame

Morrissey and animal rights group PETA have teamed up to turn The Smiths’ 1985 song ‘Meat Is Murder’ into an 8-bit videogame, called ‘This Beautiful Creature Must Die’.
The object of the game is to save animals from being slaughtered, so the name of the game isn’t accurate at all. You also have to avoid setting off bombs which are falling towards the slaughter house buzzsaws. I’m not sure it’s a 100% accurate depiction of the abattoir industry either. Maybe that’s not the point though.
“This game is the biggest social crusade of all, as we safeguard the weak and helpless from violent human aggression”, says Morrissey. “You don’t get that from ‘Pokémon Go'”.
No, I suppose you don’t. Though no creatures actually die in ‘Pokémon Go’, so maybe it’s better. PETA’s Joel Bartlett adds: “PETA’s ‘This Beautiful Creature Must Die’ has a fun, nostalgic vibe but also calls out animal agriculture as the biggest threat to human health, animals, and the environment today. After mastering the game, players can save animals and the Earth in real life by going vegan”.
Oh, so there is a ‘Pokémon Go’ style augmented reality element to all this. An augmented fridge, at least. Play the game here.
