Paul McCartney pays tribute to former Beatles PR Tony Barrow
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 17 May 2016
Paul McCartney has paid tribute to Tony Barrow, the Beatles’ first press officer and the man credited with coming up with the phrase ‘the fab four’, who has died aged 80.
“Tony Barrow was a lovely guy who helped us in the early years of The Beatles”, said McCartney on Twitter. “He was super professional but always ready for a laugh. He will be missed but remembered by many of us”.
Barrow worked with the Beatles from 1962 – pre their EMI record deal – until 1968. He later worked again with McCartney on his band Wings. He retired in 1980.
