Overdose confirmed as cause in Chris Kelly’s death
By Chris Cooke | Published on Tuesday 2 July 2013
Kris Kross star Chris ‘Mac Daddy’ Kelly died from a drug overdose, a coroner in Atlanta has ruled. As previously reported, the rapper was found dead at his Atlanta home at the start of May, just a few months after reuniting with his Kris Kross co-star Chris Smith at a party celebrating the 20th anniversary of the label of their mentor Jermaine Dupri.
A drug overdose was the suspected cause of death from the start, and now the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta has confirmed that fact after the return of toxicology results. Kelly had struggled with drug abuse for years and, while the coroner said it was difficult to say exactly what drugs he had consumed in the hours before his death, the rapper’s mother previously told police he had taken both cocaine and heroin.
