One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson has signed up as a player for Championship league football team Doncaster Rovers. The singer will be quitting the band with immediate effect in order to play for the team.

No, not really, it’s just some nonsense publicity thing. Tomlinson hasn’t even been ‘signed’ as such, his new alliance with the club is strictly on a ‘non-contract’ basis, though he has been given a squad number for the 2013/14 season (28, if you’re interested).

Tomlinson played in a charity match at the club’s stadium last year, after which talks to have him more involved began. According to the club, it’s hoped that he’ll be able to find the time to train with the rest of the team at some point over the season. So, it’s not like he’s actually going to play for them or anything. It is all in aid of the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield though, so stop being such a cynic.

In a statement, Tomlinson said: “This has always been a childhood dream for me. I feel very honoured to have been asked to sign for Rovers and being able to help both the club and the amazing charity Bluebell Wood is what it’s all about”.
