And Finally

One Direction plotting move into ballet – well, sort of, possibly, not really, says The Sun

Once the upcoming movie is done and dusted, how about ‘One Direction: The Ballet’? True, the 1D boys can’t dance, but they could jump up and down in amongst people who can.

Anyway, Harry Styles has apparently expressed an interest in taking up ballet. Well, according to The Sun, he had a conversation with Mick Jagger’s personal trainer Torje Eike backstage at a recent Rolling Stones gig and discussed how the aging rocker can still manage all that on-stage strutting. And Eike revealed it’s all down to a programme of running, weight lifting, kickboxing and, yes, ballet.

Says the Sun’s source: “Harry wants a career spanning decades like Mick’s and to have that he recognises that fitness, health and developing his body is the key. He spoke to Torje about Jagger’s intense routine of kickboxing, running, weights and, most importantly, ballet. That’s the Achilles’ heel in Harry’s training. He can’t dance and neither can any of the 1D boys – their choreographer recognised early on that they shouldn’t dance on stage”.

But nevertheless, ballet could still be useful behind the scenes, if only to further hone that ‘not really doing anything on stage’ thing the 1D boys have perfected.

Or so says Ramzy Khachik, who works with Mark Jarvis, who is seemingly acting as personal trainer for the boy band at the moment. He told the tab: “Nobody works harder than ballet dancers. It’s all about grace, stance and strength. Harry sees how supple Mick is, how he manages to stretch his body and do contortions. It’s a brilliant art form and will get more grace into his movements – if you’re graceful you can get away with minimalistic moves, which is what their choreography is about”.
