Official Charts Company confirms renewed BBC deal
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 8 April 2013
The Official Charts Company last week confirmed it had signed a new four year deal with the BBC which will see Radio 1 continue to air the official first countdown of the weekly singles chart each weekend. The BBC pop station has aired a weekly chart ever since its launch in 1967.
Confirming the renewed deal, which runs to 2016, OCC MD Martin Talbot told reporters: “We’re delighted to agree this deal with the BBC, who are our most valued partners. The fact that we will be on the cusp of marking our golden anniversary with the BBC by the end of this deal highlights just how successful this marriage has been”.
Noting the recent revamp on Radio 1’s Sunday evening chart show, he continued: “The fabulous Jameela Jamil has been doing a great job since taking over from Reggie Yates in January this year, and we look forward to working with her – and the rest of the ‘Radio 1 Official Chart Show’ team – increasingly closely over the coming years”.
