A new season of CMU Insights courses kicks off next week, with another edition of the eight week seminar programme ‘How The Music Business Works’, plus two masterclasses, one helping brands navigate the music industry, the other an overview of the digital music market and digital licensing.

‘How The Music Business Works’ provides a concise overview of the wider music industry in eight two hour sessions, taking place each Monday at 4pm in Shoreditch from next week, Monday 6 Jun. Along the way it will consider music rights, the live sector, brand partnerships, merch and direct-to-fan, with particular focuses on copyright and fan engagement. Tickets are available for the full eight-week programme or individual sessions – click here for information.

‘Music Business Explained – For Brands’, presented in association with Lewis Silkin on Wednesday 15 Jun, provides an overview of the music industry from a brand and sync perspective, explaining the roles different music companies play, how the different music rights fit together, and what that means for brands or sync clients looking to work with artists or license music for their own content. Tickets for this half-day session are £125 and are available here.

‘Navigating The Digital Market’, also in association with Lewis Silkin, runs through the digital music market as of now – which services are really dominating in which territories. It then explains, once and for all, how different streaming services are licensed by record labels, music publishers and collecting societies, and what happens to the money as it flows through the system. Finally, it will consider the challenges ahead for the streaming services, and the digital pie and transparency debates within the music community. Tickets for this half-day session are £125 and are available here.

Don’t forget, CMU Insights can also run seminars in-house for labels, publishers, promoters, management firms, digital platforms and other music businesses. Companies can choose from a menu of two-hour ‘primer’ sessions, or the CMU Insights team can put together bespoke courses to suit a client’s needs. More information here.
