Musical millionaires: Lady pop stars dominate in young rich list, but male rockers lead overall

In an industry that is still, in many ways, male dominated, it’s interesting, is it not, that the ‘top ten British musical millionaires under 30 years old’ list is dominated by female performers, led, of course, by Adele, but also featuring Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis, Katie Melua and Florence Welch.
And while the One Direction boys, each thought to be worth about £5 million, now appear in the Young Music Millionaires Top 20 within the latest Sunday Times Rich List report, their combined fortune still wouldn’t match Adele’s wealth, which the newspaper now reckons to be in the region of £30 million. Good times.
Though, of course, if you move over to the all-ages musical rich list, it’s the old men who still dominate, with Victoria Beckham and Olivia Harrison the only ladies in the top ten, and both reliant in one way or another on a man for some of their fortune (the former being bundled with other half David in the list). In fact you have to go down to 26 to find a sole musical lady in that list, where you will find Enya of all people with her estimated fortune of £87 million. Who knew that the Orinoco mainly flowed with cash?
