Music publisher Felix Hines dies
By Chris Cooke | Published on Tuesday 21 October 2014
Executives from across the music publishing sector, and beyond, were paying tribute yesterday to Felix Hines of Phoenix Music International, who died on Saturday morning while attending the Amsterdam Dance Event.
PMI confirmed the news on its website yesterday, writing: “It is with huge sadness and very heavy hearts that Phoenix Music International announce that our Head of Publishing, Felix Hines, has passed away”.
“Felix joined Phoenix in 2012 after seventeen successful years in the publishing world, seven of them as MD of renowned London publisher Westbury Music. His extraordinary A&R talent was responsible for the signings of Riva Starr, Theo Parrish and Ragga Twins, amongst others, and took us to the lofty heights of the UK and US charts”.
“His latest signings, GoGo Penguin, are shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, an achievement he was rightfully so proud of. He leaves a wife and devastated family, friends and colleagues. On behalf of his colleagues and the company, I would ask that over the next few difficult days you give us time to respond to any questions you may have”.
Also paying tribute, via Twitter, Hines’ former employer Westbury Music said: “Westbury are deeply upset by the loss of Felix Hines, he will be seriously missed by all who worked with him over the years”.
