Music Matters launches today
By CMU Editorial | Published on Wednesday 24 March 2010
Arty short film types Future Shorts are spearheading a new initiative to convince music fans that music and musicians matter – the implication being that fans shouldn’t go ripping off the music community by downloading all their music for free from dodgy file-sharing networks.
At the heart of the Music Matters campaign will be a series of short films focusing on, and telling the stories of, a handful of artists. Two of those films are already online, telling the stories of two inspirational musical types, John Martyn and Blind Willie Johnson. Future films will feature living artists like Nick Cave and Sigur Rós.

Other Music Matters initiatives involving various artists, labels, retailers and managers are planned, more on which in due course. The videos are being showcased to press types at one of the Curzon cinemas this morning, while there’s a launch party at Cargo tonight. Groovy.
