Music 4.5 puts the spotlight on the politics of licensing
By Chris Cooke | Published on Friday 10 June 2016
If our CMU Trends free read on the music industry’s tetchy relationship with YouTube got you interested in the politics of music licensing, well, here is the event for you.
The next Music 4.5 session is taking place in London on 22 Jun, with the safe harbours behind the YouTube squabble very much on the agenda, as the spotlight is put on the various issues that remain in the music licensing domain, especially in relation to the ever expanding streaming market. Plus will the EU Collective Rights Management Directive that is now in operation really deliver the simpler multi-territory licensing, and more efficient and transparent collective licensing systems, that it set out to achieve?
Amongst those set to speak at ‘The Politics Of Licensing’ are Alex Damon from Russells, Paul Kempton from Footprint Music, Paul Pacifico from the Featured Artists Coalition, and songwriter and producer Crispin Hunt, who now also sits on boards at PPL, PRS and BASCA. Creators, rights owners, licensees and lawyers will all contribute to what is set to be a lively debate. Plus CMU Business Editor Chris Cooke will get the ball rolling with his customary Story So Far presentation that kicks off the proceedings.
It all takes place at the HQ of Lewis Silkin on 22 Jun. For more information and to book your tickets, get over to this link here.
