‘Monkey Christ’ lady inspires pop song
By Aly Barchi | Published on Wednesday 16 April 2014
A renegade Spanish singer has written a single inspired by Cecilia Gimenez, aka the elderly lady behind the viral miracle of the ‘Monkey Christ’.
82 year old Giminez’s simian restoration job on a 100 year old painting of JC, which is still ‘on display’ in a church in the town of Borja, became a big deal back in 2012, mostly because the Son Of God looked a bit like an ape in it. A goddamn dirty ape.
Anyway, Spanish singing star (who I’m not certain is that big a star, really) Ángel Petisma is releasing a track as a ‘gracias’ to Sra Gimenez, who has apparently had a hard time post ‘Monkey Christ’, dealing with all haters, Christians and art critics.
“Her story made me reflect. I felt a great deal of sympathy for her”, said Petisma, who plans to appear as Jesus in the video, opposite Gimenez, who’ll play herself. All of which probably won’t piss anyone off. At all.
