Microsoft reveals tablet
By CMU Editorial | Published on Tuesday 19 June 2012
Microsoft announced details about its new iPad-rival yesterday, with the IT giant confirming it would launch its own tablet device later this year called Surface. There will be two versions of the new device, one running Microsoft’s new Windows RT operating system, the other Windows 8.
The new device will have a 10.6 inch screen made of break-resistant “Gorilla Glass”, a built in stand and an optional magnetically connecting touch cover with multi-touch keyboard. Users will also be able to interact with the device using a digital pen, with some commentators remarking that that option, plus two inbuilt USB ports and better WiFi connectivity, are the main USPs over Apple’s iPad.
Exact release dates and pricing for Surface isn’t yet clear, though it will launch Stateside in the Autumn, and is unlikely to compete on price at launch.
