This time next week The Great Escape will be underway once again, with artists, industry players and music fans from across the world amassing in Brighton for three days of showcases, debates, insights, networking and parties.

Things begin on the convention side at 10.30am next Thursday morning with ‘Where We’re At’, a keynote session led by CMU Business Editor Chris Cooke. He will track the ten biggest stories and most illuminating stats from the last twelve months in the music business, before chatting the Charles Caldas, CEO of indie labels digital rights agency Merlin.

Merlin is fast approaching its fifth anniversary, and has just undertaken a new survey of its member labels, and Caldas will share his views and insights on the evolution of the digital market. He recently told CMU: “From day one, independent labels and artists have been at the forefront of digital music: adapting to change, driving innovation and weathering perennial challenges – from both inside and outside the industry”.

He continued: “As the digital market continues to evolve, and particularly with the growing adoption of streaming services, I look forward to sharing some of the insights that Merlin has gathered over the past five years with The Great Escape’s audience”.

In the second half of the keynote session, Sony Music’s Federico Bolza and MAMA & Company’s Rich McGinnis will join the debate, discussing the greatest threats and opportunities facing the music industry in the coming year. A small number of delegate passes are still available for this year’s TGE – but buy them quick!
