Mat Zo starts online label Mad Zoo
By Aly Barchi | Published on Wednesday 13 August 2014
The man, artist and dance DJ Mat Zo has established a new label, Mad Zoo, the name of which is spelt kind of like his name. So that’s nice.
The twist with Mad Zoo is that, in the interest of immediacy (apparently), all Mad Zoo singles and EPs etc will be available, digitally, for free the week they’re released. The first freebie, which arrived this week, is Mat Zo’s The Knocks-featuring new track ‘Get Down 2 Get Up’ and B-side ‘Left To Right’.
This is it:
The DJ, aka Matan Zohar, says: “I’ve always wanted a quicker outlet for my music, so awhile ago I decided to release some of my music for free on SoundCloud. The only problem with this is if I want to license the track out, or even put the track on YouTube, there has to be a label structure around it. The plans for Mad Zoo had been underway for years, so I decided to use the venture as a new way for me to release music quickly, yet still have infrastructure around it. I will still continue to work with other labels in the conventional way”.
Zohar, who released ‘Damage Control’, his first LP as Mat Zo, late last year via the London-based Anjunabeats, has also now signed off on a track titled ‘Robots Never Die’ for forthcoming sci-fi film ‘Robot Overlords’. The song features on the end credits of the movie, which will hit cinemas later this year.
