John Lydon has hit out at Universal’s announcement that it plans to re-release Sex Pistols track ‘God Save The Queen’ for the upcoming Diamond Jubilee. The single famously caused outrage, of course, when it was originally released around Liz II’s Silver Jubilee celebrations 35 years ago.

Confirming he did not endorse Universal’s re-release campaign, Lydon said yesterday: “I would like to very strongly distance myself from the recent stories and campaign to push ‘God Save The Queen’ for the number one spot.
