Eddy Says: Losers remix competition

Losers

Remix competitions… Yeah, I know, old hat now, ten to the dozen… but some of you reading this will remember where they started, right here on The Remix, when we persuaded Air to give us the parts to a track for inclusion on the first ever Remix compilation album.

We helped with an Infadels one too, and I persuaded my pal Soulchild to give us the parts for ‘Gay Bar’ by Electric Six for a hilarious competition. We even helped Simian discover Justice via their remix comp for ‘We Are Your Friends’.

Tinkering with a track is still a lot of fun, but the production bar has raised so much since those early days of bedroom mashers on free editing software. I was reminded of this last week when the boys from GeRM took the acapella version of ‘Flush’ from the promo CD and just did their own version of the track. It’s really good, in a very trendy, ‘now’ way. It’s something of a departure for them, too. I’ll put it up here next week for you, so you can hear it for yourself.

So, this is a rather long-winded way of saying that it’s time for another remix competition. There are lots of old skool mashers out there, who, just by farting about doing mash-ups for years, have developed some pretty mean production skills. Hell, the likes of Garrett Lee and Freelance Hellraiser have gone on to work with some of the greatest names in music.

And there’s now a whole new breed of serious dance music producers, honing their skills and sending me interesting productions every week, and the next wave, the Geth Owens of the world; he’s sixteen years old, was inspired by Pendulum to make tunes, and already has plays on Radio One and The Remix under his belt.

Time for you all to have some fun. Take the acapella of Losers’ debut single and do your worst. The team and I will check them all out and the best one will get played on the show and bigged up by me and all the Losers family. Who knows, it may be that first break you’ve been looking for.

Good luck. I’m looking forward to hearing what you do with it…
