Live Nation has cancelled a dance music bash due to take place at a site owned by the County Of Los Angeles after two people died at a similar event staged there last month.

Teenagers Tracy Nguyen and Katie Dix both died at the Hard Summer festival at the county-owned Fairplex on 1 Aug, seemingly in drug-related incidents. Dozens more festival-goers reportedly required hospital treatment.

With the LA County now considering a ban on EDM shows and festivals at all of its facilities, Live Nation agreed to cancel an event due to take place at Fairplex next week, while also cutting the capacity on another scheduled for Halloween, and committing to add free water stations, increase security and medical services, and distribute drug education literature at that two-day show.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fair Association, which runs Fairplex, told reporters: “Fairplex will continue to work with Live Nation, the board of supervisors and all public agencies to ensure the continued safety of all guests. We will work together to do everything we can”.

She didn’t comment on the possibility of the organisation banning any future EDM events, though that option is still seemingly on the table.

Meanwhile, EDM powerhouse SFX has also cancelled an event in the region, the One Tribe festival which was due to take place near LA on 25 and 26 Sep. Though that’s as a result of that more traditional problem of poor ticket sales.
