Eddy Says: Let’s be friends

By | Published on Monday 16 February 2009

I think I might be the last person in the world to join Facebook. I avoided it for years because I just had no time. I was a busy DJ, producer, radio host, programmer, and single dad, with a girlfriend… With all that combined, keeping on top of my MySpace was hard enough, let alone jumping into any other social networking.

Nowadays I’m single, which has freed up some time, thank God, because my new management decreed a few weeks ago that I MUST join Facebook “because it’s a great way to be in touch with fans and supporters, to promote what you’re doing, and to give them exclusive stuff”. Sounds good to me. So I joined, and now I’m in, I’m thinking what an idiot for not doing it years ago! I love the immediacy of it, and the user friendliness. I love the randomness of the connections one makes, and the obvious fact that old friends and new friends can get in touch easily. Masses of people turned up to the first Losers headline show after I sent out an invitation and put everybody that replied via Facebook on a concessions list.

I don’t believe in that thing of having ‘your people’ do your Facebook. I think it should always be about access and be personal, so it will always be me on the other end of that connection. Please feel free to send me a friend request, I will accept every one, and please join my new ‘Fan’ page. This will be used as an occasional conduit for free or reduced tickets to gigs, guestlists, and the occasional Losers mix or original track, so it’s definitely worth being a part of if you’re interested in my shit.

I’m also going to get it he habit of taking my laptop into Xfm when I do the show and running Facebook, in tandem with MySpace and the Xfm texts machine in the studio. I’ve noticed there’s a bunch of you listening live and reacting via the Facebook page, and requesting tracks cos it’s free there… makes great sense, so you can rely on that from now. Now all I have to do is master Twitter and I will have moved fully and whole heartedly into the 21st Century. Jesus, if Stephen Fry is doing it, then it’s slightly odd that I’m not.

Biggups to you and see you on the walls!
