An LA judge has rejected a retrial bid by Katherine Jackson in her long-running legal dispute with AEG Live, promoters of her late son’s ill-fated ‘This Is It’ venture.

As much previously reported, the Jackson family claimed that AEG, as ‘This Is It’ promoter, should be held liable for the late king of pop’s demise, because it employed Conrad Murray, the medic jailed for causing the singer’s death through negligent treatment.

But after a long trial last year the jury hearing the case decided that, while AEG did hire Murray, because he was a licensed doctor it was reasonable for the live firm to assume that he would provide safe and proper healthcare.

In a first appeal bid, the Jacksons claimed that a number of mistakes were made in the original trial, mainly that the jury were incorrectly briefed by the judge. But legal reps for AEG argued that wasn’t true, that the court battle had been conducted fairly and that jurors were correctly briefed.

And the judge considering Katherine Jackson’s appeal concurred. AEG lawyer Marvin Putnam told the New York Daily News: “We couldn’t be more pleased with the court’s ruling. We were confident that the court would uphold the jury’s verdict, the product of five months of their careful focus and attention”.

Though the Jacksons are not done yet, with TMZ reporting that papers have already been filed with the California Court Of Appeal.
