Kid Rock back in court over waffle house fracas

By | Published on Friday 17 September 2010

Kid Rock was back in court this week to face a civil action in relation to the previously reported fight he got into at a waffle house in Georgia back in 2007.

The fight, between the rapper and his entourage and a man called Harlen Akins, has already been the subject of a criminal case. Then Rock, real name Robert Ritchie, pleaded guilty to simple battery and was ordered to serve 80 hours of community service.

In this case, Akins is suing for damages, claiming Ritchie’s attack was unprovoked and left him with serious injuries. But taking to the stand this week, Ritchie himself, while not denying an altercation took place, argued that he and his posse were provoked by the claimant, and that the scuffle that followed was a lot less violent than Akins claims. The rocker said trouble began when Akins got into an argument with Davina Barnes, a female member of Ritchie’s entourage.

She also testified, and added that as the argument between Akins and Team Rock escalated the claimant taunted Ritchie by asking “How’s Pam doing tonight?” – a reference to his ex-wife Pamela Anderson. Their split was still relatively recent at the time, and had been in the news shortly before the waffle house fracas because Ritchie had had a run in with Anderson’s other ex Tommy Lee at an awards event.

To get some context, or possibly just after some insider celeb gossip, the judge asked Ritchie to talk him through the run in with Lee, even though it’s not directly relevant to this case, except, I suppose, to see if the rapper has a tendency to get violent. Ritchie explained how Lee had knocked his hat off at the 2007 MTV VMAs and how he had responded by punching the Motley Crue man in the face. But, he added, the two men had since made amends and become friends.

The case continues.
