Kesha has filed court documents to replace Mark Geragos, the celebrity lawyer who has to date been representing her in the legal dispute with producer Dr Luke. In his place, she requests that law firm O’Melveny & Myers be listed as her lead counsel.

Geragos, who has previously represented clients including OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson and Chris Brown, has been accused of making a number of questionable moves during this case. Not least implying on Twitter that Dr Luke raped Lady Gaga, claims she denied, and which led to a further defamation action being launched by the producer.

The complicated, multi-state legal battle between Kesha and her long-timer collaborator Luke has mostly been focussed on proceedings in New York so far, where Dr Luke’s countersuit against Kesha is being heard. She originally sued him in California, but New York proceedings were prioritised because of the jurisdiction of contracts signed between the two parties. The Californian case has been put on hold awaiting the outcome of the NY case.

The New York court battle has not been moving in Kesha’s favour so far. Two attempts to have her temporarily released from her contract with Luke’s Sony-controlled label have been denied and last month much of her case against the producer was dismissed by the court.

Meanwhile, last week Kesha’s mother Pebe Sebert also dropped Gerago as her legal representation, as she voluntarily dismissed her own Nashville-based claims of intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress against Luke.

Also last week, Kesha released her first new music since her case against Luke began, recording a new version of Zedd’s ‘True Colors’. Still bound to her deals with Luke’s companies, it was released in conjunction with his Kemosabe imprint and with his consent.
