Some good artists, some not so good ones, some Brazilian ones, and Rita Ora, have joined Janelle Monáe on a Pepsi MAX-backed compilation coinciding with the 2014 World Cup, titled ‘Beats Of The Beautiful Game’.
Kelly Rowland, Timbaland, Santigold and approved Rio band Pearls Negras all feature on the LP, which is released on 9 Jun. Most of its tracks are paired with a ‘filmtrack’, aka a short film, directed by the likes of Spike Lee, Idris Elba and actor Diego Luna, in a bid to represent the “sights, sounds and international spirit of football”.
This is Kelly Rowland talking now: “It’s a very important message and I’m honoured to partner with Pepsi on a project that brings the worlds of music, sports and film together. As an artist – and a huge film and sports fan – it’s been an incredible experience”.
Pepsi will start streaming and releasing tracks as singles next week (20 May), via iTunes, premiering the ‘filmtracks’ over on pepsi.com/thegame, and/or on YouTube.
