Katy Perry spends a year in the Billboard Hot 100’s top ten

Oh, that Katy Perry, she just won’t stop breaking records, will she? Last week it was the highest number of plays on US radio in a week, now it’s been announced that she’s become the first artist in the history of the entire universe to spend 52 consecutive weeks in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
How did she do it? You really want to know? Well, read on. It all began on 29 May 2010, when ‘California Gurls’ went to number two. It was still in the top ten, having by then also spent six weeks at number one, when ‘Teenage Dream’ forced its way into the chart in August, slowly working its way up to number one a month later. After that came ‘Firework’, which hit number ten in November, the same week that ‘Teenage Dream’ left the top ten. With ‘California Gurls’ also falling down the chart by that point, that was the closest she got to losing her chart reign. Lastly, ‘ET’ joined ‘Firework’ in the top ten for its last two weeks in March.
As of right now, ‘ET’ is still there, and Perry can dance around singing: “52 weeks in the chart, I am like a very bad fart” to the tune of ‘Firework’.
