Kanye West settles photographer attack lawsuit
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 8 April 2015
Kanye West and paparazzo Daniel Ramos have settled a lawsuit launched in August 2013. Ramos accused West of attacking him at Los Angeles International Airport in July of that year.
As previously reported, the lawsuit resulted in an amusing deposition from West, in which he claimed – under oath – to be “the smartest celebrity you’ve ever fucking dealt with”, before claiming that his father had been a paparazzo, and that he had a good relationship with many of the photographers who followed him around.
“Sometimes I get in the car with the paparazzi”, he told Ramos’ lawyer Gloria Allred in the deposition. “Paparazzi help me to park. The paparazzi watch my car and makes sure that cops don’t give me tickets. There are some nice guys out here trying to just feed their family. And then there’s assholes like the guy you’re representing”.
That’s all changed now though. As part of a settlement West agreed to apologise to Ramos, Allred said in a statement yesterday. To prove this, she also sent out a picture of West smiling and shaking hands with the photographer. Further details of the settlement (ie financial or car parking) were not disclosed.
West entered a no contest plea on a criminal charge of misdemeanour battery relating to the same incident in March 2014, and was ordered to attend an anger management course and carry out 250 hours of community service.
