Kanye West is “not Britney Spears”, but is part of the oppressed celebrity minority
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 7 August 2014
Kanye West has been ranting again. And I know that’s not exactly an uncommon thing, but it’s not every day he does it under oath.
According to TMZ, in a deposition as part of a previously reported assault case brought by photographer Daniel Ramos against the rapper, West proclaimed: “I’m the smartest celebrity you’ve ever fucking dealt with. I’m not Britney Spears”.
That’s not all, he apparently told Ramos’s lawyer Nate Goldberg: “I’m in the business of trying to make dope shit for the world. You’re in the business of representing scum and trying to make as much money as long as there’s this lapse in the law”.
Having laid out exactly who he is and what he does (and where he’s from – stating his residence as “Earth”), he went on to compare the struggle of celebrities today with the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Asked by Goldberg if he genuinely saw a parallel between these two things, Kanye said: “Yes, 100% … I equate it to discrimination. I equate it to inequalities. We, as group of minorities here in LA, as celebrities have to band together to influence guys like this – guys trying to take the picture, guys trying to get the big win, guys trying to get the cheque”.
Looking forward to that guest rap from Boris Johnson on the new Kanye album.
