Justin Bieber is 3% of Twitter

By | Published on Thursday 9 September 2010

According to an interesting tweet that we retweeted earlier this week, the phenomenon that is Justin Bieber currently accounts for 3% of all of Twitter’s server activity at any one time, and the squeaky popstrel has racks of servers dedicated solely to him in the HQ of the micro-blogging network.

The claim comes form a blogger called Dustin Curtis, who says he got the stats from an unnamed employee at Twitter. Mashable has since been trying to verify the figures Curtis published. And although Twitter itself has refused confirm or deny the Bieber stats, Mashable seems to have concluded they are entirely believable.

Explaining why JB would need plenty of Twitter bandwidth all to himself, Curtis has added: “Every time Bieber tweets, his messages have to be delivered to more than five million people who then endlessly retweet it. Apparently, his account receives more than 60 @-replies per second for a while after he tweets, which is something Twitter wasn’t originally designed to handle”.
