Journey are suing audio equipment manufacturer Monster Inc for $500,000, claiming breach of contract.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the band claim that they were booked to perform as part of a Monster event at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. However, the electronics firm then cancelled the performance, supposedly in favour of a cheaper band. But with contracts already signed, Journey say that they are still owed their fee.

According to Journey’s lawyer, Howard King, a deal was brokered by Broken Arrow Music Marketing in October last year, with Monster then cancelling a month later. Monster apologised, says the lawsuit, but did not honour a clause in their contract which guaranteed payment for the band even if the show was pulled.

Monster has traditionally aligned itself with hip hop artists, though at its CES event this year brought out sports and videogaming stars to help launch its new product line.
