Jazz FM confirms Digital One departure
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 9 December 2013
Jazz FM confirmed last week that it will drop off the Digital One network at the end of the month, meaning it will not longer be available via DAB digital radio sets nationwide. However, it will still be available via DAB in London by launching on the Switch Digital multiplex.
The boss of the now independently owned jazz station, Richard Wheatly, told Radio Today last week that the withdrawal from Digital One could see the firm lose about 150,000 of its 700,000 listeners, though he added that the majority of Jazz FM’s DAB audience was in London anyway, and that he hoped those outside the capital might switch to online channels.
Wheatly: “Most of our audience listen to us on digital radio in Greater London – 400,000 people – and around 30% are listening on platforms other than DAB across the UK”.
