Jake Bugg: Not a big fan of live music

Back around Glastonbury time, notoriously chirpy chappy Jake Bugg was banging on about how much he dislikes festivals. ‘Fair enough’, you probably thought to yourself. ‘I’ll give young Jake the benefit of the doubt on this one. Festivals aren’t for everyone. And, to be honest, they’re not always the right setting to experience live music at its best’. Though it turns out he’s not much into live music at all, so that’s your theory right out of the window.

In his latest interview with the NME, Bugg admits that he has only been to seven gigs in his life, including shows headlined by Kings Of Leon and The Stone Roses. His argument, is that he’d rather focus on his own live performances and not be influenced by what other people are doing.

“I think as a performer [watching other bands] messes with your head a bit. You think, ‘What are they doing that I’m not doing?’ when you should just get on with what you do”.

There is possibly a certain logic in that, but I’m not sure anyone would say Bugg’s exactly let his imagination run riot when it comes to performing live. Maybe it was a mistake to go and see Kings Of Leon.
