There has been much speculation about the viability of Apple’s new iTunes Radio streaming service, but the company has announced that it signed up eleven million users to it in the first five days it was live in the US. This is still a way off the more than 200 million registered users Pandora claims, but is still a significant start and enough to cause Pandora’s share price to slip.

Apple also announced that it had sold over nine million iPhone 5s and 5c handsets in their first three days on sale worldwide, the company’s most successful iPhone launch to date, according to CEO Tim Cook.

In a statement, Cook said: “This is … a new record for first weekend sales. The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone”.

Stat fans may also be interested to know that the most popular song on iTunes Radio, as of yesterday, was ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ by Drake.
