iPad on sale in US

By | Published on Tuesday 6 April 2010

So, the iPad is on sale in the US, and consumer demand has been high for Apple’s take on the tablet computer, though possibly not quite as high as some media reports suggested. It was reported up to 700,000 of the new devices had been shifted on first day of sale on Saturday, though Apple said yesterday that the actual figure was closer to 300,000.

It still remains to be seen if the latest Apple innovation is the ‘game changer’ the iPod and iPhone proved to be. Like both those devices, the iPad simply reworks a product Apple’s competitors have offered for some time, however, with the right content products it could further revolutionise the way we consume digital media and entertainment.

Certainly, some media owners – who reckon consumers may be willing to pay for iPad-based services while expecting normal web-based products to be free – hope so. That said, music is still not core to the iPad offer.

The iPad is due to launch in the UK this month, and iPad apps are already available via the UK version of the iTunes Store. Meanwhile, if you’ve been wondering how easy the new Apple device might be to blend, here’s your answer:
