Wi-fi hotspot provider Fon has announced a new product called Gramofon, which allows you to stream music from Spotify from any iOS or Android device to your hi-fi.

The low-cost box connects to your hi-fi via a standard 3.5 inch jack and will work with the official Spotify app, meaning no further downloads are required. A free radio service is also provided by WahWah, and the company is working on convincing other streaming companies to adopt the technology.

As well as all that, friends can also connect to the device to collectively play music, or just use it as a wi-fi hub. Rather than messing around with passwords, others will be able to connect using their Facebook login details (which also means you can block individual users, should you wish).

The first 500 backers on Kickstarter were able to buy their Gramofon devices for just $30. Though these are all sold out now, it’s still available for $50, which means it’s still considerably lower in price than competitors, such as Sonos. In total, Fon is seeking to raise $250,000 for the first run of 6500 units.
