Has Universal gazumped Cowell over new ITV pop show?
By CMU Editorial | Published on Wednesday 16 February 2011
The reason ITV has knocked back proposals by Simon Cowell’s Syco for a new peak time pop telly show may well be because it has a similar project in development with Universal Music’s TV division Globe Productions, or at least that’s what The Sun reckons.
Cowell indicated last year that he was talking to ITV about a new pop show similar to ‘Top Of The Pops’, but it’s known those proposals are no longer on the table. And now The Sun says that Universal is in “advanced negotiations” about making a similar show.
Although Cowell and his Sony Music division Syco have a more high profile relationship with ITV, Universal’s Globe Productions has already made a number of artist-specific specials for the third channel.
