GRL announce new single, partner with mental health charity
By Andy Malt | Published on Friday 16 January 2015
US girl group GRL have announced their first single since the death of member Simone Battle by suicide earlier this year. Titled ‘Lighthouse’, the track is dedicated to Battle and comes alongside a partnership between the Pussycat Dolls spin-off and mental health awareness charity Give An Hour, called GRL Gives An Hour.
Speaking about Battle’s death, the group’s Emmalyn Estrada told People: “We rehearsed the other day without her and it’s just weird. But she was so passionate about singing and this group, and I feel like we’re keeping her memory alive by being together. But right now we’re focused on the song and the positive message overall, about being together in hard times. We’re taking everything else one day at a time”.
On their partnership with Give An Hour, Natasha Slayton added: “Mental health is important for everyone, and people need to be able to talk about it. And also be aware of the signs that friends and family members can look out for, in case someone close to them is going through something”.
