CMU Playlists

Playlist: Scouting For Girls

By | Published on Saturday 1 May 2010

They may be a band who divide opinions, but you can’t deny that the Scouting For Girls boys have been pretty damn successful since their eponymous chart-topping debut album arrived on the scene in 2007, delivering as it did a plethora of single releases and a number of hits, most notably ‘She’s So Lovely’ and ‘It’s Not About You’.

Consisting of Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard, SFG have come a very long way since Team CMU first saw them play in a metal shed round the back of the Wireless festival a few months before that first album was unleashed. Now they’re back with album number two, ‘Everybody Wants To Be On TV’, which entered the chart at number two earlier this month, while the first single from it, ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’, went to number one.

Despite all this going on, we managed to get bassist Greg Churchouse to sit down and put together a playlist of ten tracks that get the Scouting For Girls boys excited. And here it is.

01 Owl City – Fireflies
I remember Roy talking about this band about a year ago, before everything took off for them and he could see great things happening. It’s just such a wonderful pop song, a modern classic.

02 Amy MacDonald – Don’t Tell Me That It’s Over

She’s produced so many great tunes. We’ve had the pleasure of playing a few festivals with her too and she’s just a great songwriter and vocalist.

03 Ke$ha – Tik Tok

Once again, just another great modern classic: pure and simple pop, just how we like it.

04 Keane – Spiralling

The Keane boys just keep coming back with hit after hit and this single from the third album is no exception.

05 Mumford & Sons – The Cave

Great sound, great songs and just a lovely bunch of blokes. It’s just so good to see a band doing so well; we foresee great things for them in the future.

06 REM – Bad Day

A colossus in the music world, REM have been Roy’s favourite band since I’ve known him. We could have picked so many of their tunes, but ‘Bad Day’ is a particular favourite.

07 Kate Nash – Do-Wah-Do

We all adored her first album so it’s great to have this as the lead single from the second. More pure pop from Miss Nash and a great video, too.

08 Coldplay – Viva la Vida

What can you say about Coldplay? They are just the biggest British band this century, and with a back catalogue like theirs, it’s no wonder. This track’s an anthem!

09 The Script – Breakeven

Another great band, we have been lucky enough to get to know them over the last couple of years. A great live band, they have a great formula for amazing songs and this one is a corker.

10 Bruce Springsteen – Born To Run

He really is the Boss! And what an awesome tune! Need we say more?
