So, what’s all this about The Great Escape First Fifty then? Well, let me explain. In late November, the first 50 artists set to play next year’s Great Escape festival will be officially announced. And to celebrate, the more impatient of those fifty artists will get up on stage in East London to play at one of ten special shows all taking place under the banner First Fifty. See, pretty simple really, right?

But who the devil, may I ask, are the artists set to play at the First Fifty shows this year? Well, as you asked so nicely, I’ll tell you. They are: Hannah Georgas, Klangstof, Nilüfer Yanya, The Age Of LUNA, Ray Blk, Miles From Kinshasa, James Hersey, Plaitum, Ider, Tigertown, Fil Bo Riva, Matt Maeson, Marthagunn, Poté, Shitkid, Gothic Tropic, Jameszoo, Sarathy Korwar, Be Charlotte, Shells, Drones Club, Cabbage, Moses, Saint Phnx, LA Salami, Brian Deady, Carys Selvey, Indigo Husk, Abattoir Blues, Husky Loops and Eat Fast.

Given that those artists are playing the First Fifty shows, that also means they will feature in the list of the first 50 bands to play TGE 2017. But you’ll still act surprised when the full list comes out in the midst of the shows won’t you? Don’t worry, there’ll be another nineteen bands on that list to act surprised about. It’ll be fine.

Commenting on the First Fifty events, the boss of TGE operator Mama Festivals, Rory Bett, says: “Over the last eleven years The Great Escape has been providing the soundtrack to our future with over 3750 artists showcasing in Brighton, and today’s announcement of the First Fifty shows previews the next wave of artists set to go down in TGE history. No other festival out there launches in this way with ten live gigs, and the best thing is that this is just the start; we’ll have another 400+ bands to announce in the new year!”
