Google has hired American mechanical rights company the Harry Fox Agency to handle rights management on its Google Play music service. The deal will see the rights agency facilitate publishing licences for music on both Google’s locker and download store, as well as administering licences and paying royalties to rightsholders.

Harry Fox Agency President and CEO Michael Simon said: “HFA continues to forge relationships that join content creators and digital music distributors in win-win opportunities. We are thrilled that Google is developing new music publishing revenue streams and are delighted to streamline their content clearance process so that they can focus on providing their customers with the best service possible”.

The company already has a similar deal in place with Amazon for its Cloud Player service.
