Global Radio reportedly bidding for Juice FM in Liverpool
By Chris Cooke | Published on Thursday 2 April 2015
If you thought Global Radio had given up with its ambitions to further expand its core UK radio business after the messy Competition Commission investigation into its purchase of the Guardian’s old radio firm, you’d be well wrong.
Following the news earlier this year that UTV was considering selling its thirteen British local radio stations, The Guardian reports that Global is now in talks to buy the company’s Liverpool outlet Juice FM. It’s thought that if it did acquire the local FM licence, Global would likely use it to expand its Capital FM network into Merseyside.
Neither Global nor UTV have commented on the sale talks as yet. Also no word on the other UTV stations, though several are in the Midlands where Global’s existing dominance has caused competition concerns before, so it would be unlikely to bid for those.
