The War On Drugs

First, something highbrow for all you non-philistines in the round-up house. In short, St John At Hackney church in London has added LSD-loving neo-classicist Wolfgang Voigt, Edinburgh duo Dalhouse and Shri Lankan-born sonic artist Paul Jebanasam to the listings for its Sessions series of live nights.

Voigt and co will split a bill at St John on 22 May, and join the likes of Sun Awar, Julia Holter, Laurel Halo, Demdike Stare and Shackleton on the Sessions itinerary, which stretches into late July. See this site for info on every single 2014 show in St John Sessions field.

Rootin tootin folk troubs The War On Drugs (pictured) are to tote their hearty third LP, ‘Lost In The Dream’, all the way from Philly in the States to… the Academy in Liverpool, England. The Liverpool show, which is on 4 Nov, signals the start of a larger UK tour for the band, who’ll also hit the Roundhouse in London (5 Nov), Bristol’s Academy (6 Nov), Manchester’s Ritz (7 Nov), and Glasgow’s ABC (8 Nov).

Well, well, well. Mussy US rock kids The Orwells will on 16 Apr – so, Wednesday – do a ‘pop-up’ show at The Pavilion on Brick Lane, in London. Why? Because they want to, because they want to. And because they want to give fans the keys to their new and indeed first ever LP, ‘Disgraceland’, ahead of its release on 2 Jun.

I’ll say one thing, though. They sure are playing fast and loose with the unwritten ‘rules’ of a ‘pop-up’, mainly by announcing the show in advance, staging it in a place that was designed to host shows, and by charging admission to the show. Buy tickets to this new breed of pop-up show here, and after, be amazed by the band’s crazed live antics in the official clip for ‘Disgraceland’ single ‘Let It Burn’:

Blues-hued UK rock group Tom Williams & The Boat are sailing off – like a real boat, only on land – on a tour of their native British Isle next month. Arranged in the main as a means to celebrate the fact that the band’s third LP, ‘Easy Fantastic’, is being released on 19 May, the nine-date voyage hits Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach first on 23 May, and docks finally at Ipswich’s Cult Café on 1 Jun. Aaaand that’s it for the maritime similes.

See all the dates detailed here, and then, if you feel so inclined, press ‘play’ on ‘All Day’, TW&TB’s winning ‘Easy Fantastic’ single:
