Iggy Azalea

Rounding up the latest gig news…

Right, gigs. Let’s talk about those. Who’s playing them? Well, Coldplay are. They’ve just announced that they’ll play six shows around the world to mark(et) the release of their new album, ‘Ghost Stories’. One of them will be in the UK at the Royal Albert Hall on 1 Jul. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 9am.

Iggy Azalea (pictured) is also going to play a show in London later this year too, hers at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 17 Sep. Tickets went on pre-sale this morning. They’ll go on general sale on Saturday at 9am sharp, so don’t worry if there are none left right now. Ticket links here.

As well as that, Iggy will be releasing her new album, ‘The New Classic’, on 21 Apr – that’s Monday. You can find more details on that and watch the video for approved Charli XCX-featuring track ‘Fancy’ here.

Next up, another approved act, Deathcrush, who are really very, very good indeed. They will be in the UK in May as the support on White Denim’s tour, which will include a date at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 28 May. But before that, they’ll be knocking around for dates around their shows at Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape. Those dates are at Tooting Tram & Social (20 Apr), The Shacklewell Arms (2 May), The Windmill in Brixton on (11 May), and for people outside London, Avondale House in Southampton (15 May).

Moving on, composers Peter Broderick and Greg Haines have announced that they’re working together on a new project, called Greg Gives Peter Space, which will see them exploring the world of dub.

Broderick explains: “Primarily inspired by mine and Greg’s recent obsession with dub music, ‘Greg Gives Peter Space’ is a mini album comprised of six tracks filled with – you guessed it – spacey sounds, created with the help of Greg’s ever-growing collection of synthesizers, tape delays and reel-to-reel machines. In the true spirit of dub music, many of the mixes were made live, both of us hovering over the mixing board, dancing around and following our intuitions, processing the sounds with live effects while the music bounced down to tape”.

Why is this in the gig round-up then? Well, because they’re playing a gig. And that gig will be at Village Underground in London on 5 Jun. Tickets are available here, and you can listen to a track from the record, called ‘The Drive’, here:

Luke Abbott now, he’s a guy with something to say. Though he says it through the medium of instrumental noise, so it’s not always easy to understand what he’s getting at. You’ll have a number of opportunities to find out in the coming months though. Not only is he releasing a new album on 23 Jun, called ‘Wysing Forest’, but he’s also got gigs lined up.

He’ll be playing headline shows in Totnes, Glasgow, Manchester and London from 21-26 Jun, and before that he’ll be joining former Battles frontman Tyondai Braxton at the Oval Space in East London. That’s a pretty good line-up, I’d say. Get yourself some tickets for that one here. And have a look at Luke doing what he does in a field here:

Danish trio Lust For Youth have announced a little jaunt to London, which will see them playing an in-store performance at Rough Trade East on 1 Jul, followed by a show at The Shacklewell Arms on 2 Jul, to promote their new album, ‘International’. That’s out on 9 Jun via Sacred Bones, and one of the tracks on it is ‘Illume’:

Do we have time for one more? Sure we do. It’s almost Easter. Very last on our list is How To Dress Well, who also has an album out in June. Though not until 23 Jun. Way closer – exactly two months closer – is a one-off show he’s playing at the 100 Club on Oxford Street. For those who didn’t already work it out from what I think was a pretty obvious clue, it’s on 23 Apr.

Support will come from Koreless and entry will be free. Free to those who win tickets, anyway. You want some, you’re going to have to fill out your details here. Quickly though, you only have until midnight on Sunday to do so.
