If you thought that senior appointments to the new PRS/GEMA/STIM super-duper cross-border music-licensing-mash-up ICE had been rather PRS heavy to date (we previously reported on PRS’s Robert Ashcroft and PRS’s Ben McEwen and PRS’s Neil Jones all taking on ICE roles), well, good news for GEMA fans this morning.

The German collecting society has announced that one of its staffers, Jörn Radloff, has been appointed Head Of Rightsholder Management for ICE Services. Radloff was involved in putting together the all-new ICE venture, and in his new permanent role he will seek to “further develop ICE’s rights and repertoire management system and strategically build up its database of international repertoires”. Which is good. I do love some strategic building.

As previously reported, the new ICE venture expands an existing partnership between PRS and STIM, which used the same name. The new ICE business will seek to license all three societies’ song catalogues to multi-territory digital services (except where publishers are doing it direct), to process income from those platforms, and to combine all three organisation’s song ownership data to ensure more efficient payments. It will operate three divisions: ICE Licensing, ICE Services and ICE Operations.

Confirming Radloff’s new role, GEMA CEO Harald Heker said: “We’re pleased that Jörn will join ICE right at the core where I know his experience will be very valuable. During the joint venture’s project phase he already took responsibility for defining and structuring the pan-European rights management system and cross-border licensing. We are delighted that he is now charge of the further development of ICE’s rights management system”.
