Lady Gaga ain’t impressed with insurer Lloyds Of London, which is refusing to pay out over a concert that was due to take place in the Indonesian capital Jakarta last summer, but which was cancelled because of statements made by Muslim extremists in the country.

As previously reported, Gaga pulled out of the Jakarta show amid fears protests by supporters of the Islamic Defenders’ Front at the concert could turn violent. The group had previously called the singer “vulgar”, and noted that she”wears only panties and a bra when she sings, and she stated she is the envoy of the devil’s child”. Indonesian police had also reportedly expressed concerns about the safety of both Gaga and her fans if protests got out of control.

After the gig was cancelled, Gaga’s promoters tried to recoup the losses caused by the axed show from their insurers, using clauses in their policy that allowed for compensation if cancellation was caused by “terrorism and/or sabotage or threat thereof”. But the insurers insist that the Islamic Defenders’ Front’s statements are not sufficient to exercise that clause.

So now the singer’s management and promoters are going legal on the matter, filing litigation in the Californian courts, all parties having bases in the state. Some have speculated that recovering losses from the Jakarta show has become more important for Team Gaga and her promoter Live Nation since the recent axing of a run of US shows due to the singer requiring hip surgery, and resulting in further expense.
