Frank Ocean releases new album Blond
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 22 August 2016
It was a busy weekend for music-related pop-up shops. There was the Morrissey shop at Salford Lads’ Club. And Kanye’s worldwide chain of stores. And then, in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and London there were stores handing out free copies of Frank Ocean’s glossy ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ magazine, which came with a CD copy of his new album ‘Blond’ stuffed inside.
Yes, it happened. It really happened. Frank Ocean released his new album. His second of the week, if you count ‘visual album’ ‘Endless’. As well as being available as a magazine freebie, you can also listen to it on Apple Music. But only Apple Music mind. No Spotifys or Tidals here thank you very much. For now.
The 360 page magazine features photography and horoscopes by Ocean, interviews with his mum and Lil B, and poetry by Kanye West and Tyler, The Creator, among other stuff. As for the album, the physical and digital versions of the LP differ slightly, but both feature contributions from Beyonce, Andre 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Yung Lean, James Blake, and more.
Following the release, Ocean posted on Tumblr: “I had the time of my life making all of this. Thank you all. Especially those of you who never let me forget I had to finish. Which is basically every one of ya’ll. Haha. Love you”.
Here’s the video for ‘Nikes’ from the album:
