Wall Of Sound

Having ended its alliance with [PIAS] late last year, the Mark Jones headed independent Wall Of Sound has just announced a global services deal with Essential Music & Marketing, which will see the Cooking Vinyl Group company handle all future WoS releases, including new albums from Mekon, Sykur and Martyn Ware’s British Electric Foundation. The new deal coincides with the appointment of Gavin Fraser as a new label manager for the indie.

Wall Of Sound has also announced a label tour, under the banner The End Of The World Tour, leading up to a special party in Ibiza on 12 Dec, the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar, of course. Team WoS tell us that “Nostradamus said that Ibiza will be the Earth’s final refuge after Armageddon”, hence the choice of venue for the tour’s climax.

Confirming the new deal, Jones told CMU: “With the end of the world looming, it seemed like the perfect time to relaunch the label. This new set up with Essential enables Wall Of Sound to focus on its musical and creative energies. It’s a new dawn… it’s a new day… Essential and Wall Of Sound… Let’s take it all the way!”

Meanwhile Essential boss Mike Chadwick added: “What have I done?!?! Just kidding, Mark and I go back a long way and it’s great to be working with each other again”.
