Eminem has announced that he will play Wembley Stadium this summer, after a performance at Hyde Park fell through. The show will be his first in London since 2001.

The Mirror reported last week that Eminem had been in talks to headline Hyde Park as part of the British Summer Time festival. However, negotiations had stalled when the Royal Parks organisation deemed that the rapper was unsuitable to perform in one of the Queen’s green spaces, given his tendency for controversy.

Slim Shady announced yesterday that he wouldn’t be playing Hyde Park with an Instagram post that simply read “Never mind Hyde Park”, before announcing the Wembley show last night. The performance will take place on 11 Jul, with tickets on sale this Friday at 9am.

The venue switch couldn’t come at a better time for Wembley Stadium, which has just reported a £7.2 million loss for 2013. This figure initially appears an improvement on 2012’s £7.8 million pre-tax loss, though This Is Money notes that, due to an accounting date change, last year’s losses were actually run up in just seven months.
