Elton John signs on for role in Kingsmen movie sequel

Elton John is set to appear in the sequel to Colin Firth spy movie ‘Kingsmen: The Secret Service’.
The musician announced his involvement in ‘Kingsmen: The Golden Circle’ via Instagram earlier this week. However, he’s been on the mind of director Matthew Vaughn for some time longer.
In an interview with ABC News Radio around the release of the ‘Kingsmen: The Secret Service’, Vaughn said that he’d had various celebs lined up for the first film in the series, though ultimately the cameos had been cut from the script. He had a particular role in mind for John though.
“I was umming and ahhing cos it had a whole fun subplot about celebrities being kidnapped”, he explained. “I had an idea of, who’s the worst celebrity you’d want to have locked in a cell? And I came up with Elton John, and having Elton John throwing these huge tantrums. Then I wanted to do an action scene of Elton John kicking the living daylights out of people”.
It’s not entirely clear if Elton John is going to go full action movie star on us now, Vaughn having also said back in 2015 that the reason the celeb story line was pulled – apart from the fact that “all the celebrities said no” – was that he didn’t think it would work: “How do you have celebrities playing themselves, opposite famous actors playing another role? The suspension of disbelief suddenly becomes harder to pull off”.
Still, what better time to revive old ideas you previously decided were shit but that still sound slightly intriguing than when trying to put together a sequel that almost no one is asking for. ‘Kingsmen: The Golden Circle’ is due out on 16 Jun 2017. Write that down.
