A Canadian dentist, Michael Zuk, who bought one of John Lennon’s teeth at auction for $30,000 in 2011, has announced that he plans to clone the late Beatle from DNA taken from the molar. Well, he’s sending it off for DNA testing anyway, and thinks cloning might be a possibility.

According to Rolling Stone, it was previously said that the tooth was too fragile to be DNA tested to ensure that it actually belonged to Lennon, relying only on the word of the seller – the daughter of Lennon’s former housekeeper – to confirm its authenticity. However, Zuk has now said in a statement: “I am nervous and excited at the possibility that we will be able to fully sequence John Lennon’s DNA, very soon I hope. With researchers working on ways to clone mammoths, the same technology certainly could make human cloning a reality”.

You can find out more about the tooth (and hear a pretty awful rework of ‘Love Me Do’) via its official website (I’m not sure how many unofficial John Lennon tooth websites there are, but you know) here.
